For my senior thesis, I redesigned a current Christian retreat center. In this project, I used my data and statistical knowledge of a current issue in the world, which is the rise of mental health and substance abuse issues, and turned the retreat into a commune/safe place for women who have struggled with addiction to find solace, support, and inspiration to rebuild their lives. I integrated therapeutic interventions, life skills development, community support, and access to nature, aiming to empower each resident to reclaim their strength, resilience, and sense of self-worth. While designing the spaces, I kept color theory, textures and patterns, visualization, autonomy, and lighting in mind, wanting to incorporate each aspect into each space in a way that would make the women feel like they can heal inside a space, just as much as they can outside.
